A3G Architects recently completed the design for a historic kitchen renovation in Kansas City, transforming a compartmentalized 1990s layout into an open, cohesive space tailored for modern living. The existing kitchen was divided by a large pantry and chimney that limited flow and natural light. Our design reimagined the plan with a spacious central island for gathering, streamlined white cabinetry, and improved daylight throughout. Special care was taken to respect the home’s historic character, thoughtfully working around original structural elements, radiators, and radiant floor systems. Modern features—including dual dishwashers and a professional-grade Wolf range—were integrated to support contemporary functionality while maintaining the integrity of the historic home. The result is a bright, highly functional kitchen that balances preservation with everyday usability.
